Running a small business isn't just about making products; for me, it’s about a journey toward wellness, creativity, and a deep-seated love for the artisanal process. It’s about slow mornings in the studio, the smell of fresh lavender, and the satisfaction of cutting into a perfectly cured loaf of soap.
The spark that started it all
The story of Sofía Cecilia Essence didn't start in a boardroom; it started in my kitchen. like many of you, I became increasingly frustrated with the "soap" found on big-box store shelves. If you look closely at the labels of those commercial bars, you’ll often see words like "detergent" or "cleansing bar." They are stripped of their natural glycerin and loaded with synthetic foaming agents that can leave your skin feeling tight, dry, and irritated.
I wanted something better. I wanted a product that felt like a hug for your skin. I began researching traditional methods of soap making and kept coming back to one specific ingredient: goat milk. 🐐
The more I learned, the more I fell in love with the idea of creating something truly handcrafted. I wanted to build a brand that felt personal: not corporate. That’s why I chose the name Sofía Cecilia Essence. It carries a sense of heritage and individual connection, reflecting the human touch that goes into every single bar we produce.
Why we choose the cold process method
At Sofía Cecilia Essence, we don’t take shortcuts. We use the traditional cold process method for all our soaps. If you’re new to the world of artisan soap, you might wonder why that matters. The cold process method involves mixing fats (like plant-based oils and butters) with an alkali (lye). This triggers a natural chemical reaction called saponification. Here is why we love it:

nutrient preservation | because we don't use external heat to melt the soap down after it's made, the delicate nutrients in our ingredients stay intact.

artistic freedom | it allows us to create those beautiful, creamy swirls and textures you see in our loaves.
Every batch is a labor of love. It requires patience: our soaps cure for 4 to 6 weeks to ensure they are hard, long-lasting, and incredibly gentle. 🛁

You might notice that almost all of our signature bars feature goat milk. Why? Because it is a powerhouse for skin health.

Making soap in small batches allows me to focus on the details. I can watch the "trace" of the soap to ensure the texture is just right. I can hand-place dried botanicals like oats, chamomile, or rose petals on top of each loaf. I can ensure that every bar that leaves my studio meets my high standards for quality and aesthetics.

A look inside our ingredients
Transparency is so important to me. I want you to know exactly what you’re putting on your body. Our recipes are carefully balanced to provide a rich, creamy lather without the use of harsh chemicals. Our base typically includes:
olive oil | for deep conditioning and a gentle cleanse.
coconut oil | for those fluffy, satisfying bubbles.
shea butter | for an extra boost of luxury and moisture.
goat milk | for the creamy, skin-soothing benefits we all love.
We then add natural clays, charcoal, or botanicals for color and texture, and high-quality essential oils or phthalate-free fragrances for a sensory experience that turns your daily shower into a spa moment.
More than just soap
Starting Sofía Cecilia Essence has been one of the most rewarding challenges of my life. It has allowed me to connect with people in my community who are looking for a more natural, intentional way to care for themselves. Every time someone tells me that our soap helped their dry skin or that they look forward to using their "heart design" bar every morning, it reminds me why I started this journey. Soap is such a simple, everyday object, but when it’s made with care, it can truly elevate your routine.
